Seattle’s Slow Boat Tavern is closing. The last day is April 29th

One of the city’s beloved beer-focused bars will close later this month.

The Slow Boat Tavern will cease operations later this month. Saturday, April 29th marks your last opportunity to visit the pint-sized bar in Seattle’s Hillman City neighborhood. The Slow Boat Tavern is located at 5701 Rainier Ave S, Seattle, WA 98118.

Ken Provost, a veteran of the Seattle beer scene, opened The Slow Boat in 2015, setting out to give the neighborhood a cozy bar with a strong focus on the best beers. What he created is a friendly beer joint that is one part dive bar and one part kickass Belgian beer hall. The very best of two worlds.

Like all bars and restaurants, the last few years have proven particularly difficult for Ken’s bar. He worked on selling the business to someone who could keep The Slow Boat above water, but that didn’t happen.

The last day is April 29th and thereafter another company will take over the property. Mimi plans to open sometime this Summer. Though we have no idea what Mimi will be, it won’t be The Slow Boat and that’s sad.

Here’s a video to give you a sense of the vibe at The Slow Boat.

Here’s the announcement Ken Provost made on Instagram.

“It is with mixed emotions that I announce Slow Boats last day of business will be Saturday 4/29. The last 7 years have been the best of my life. And while I could talk endlessly about all of the cool beers that we’ve poured and events that we’ve had, it’s really the people I’ve met and the friendships and community that have been created here that are the most important things this bar should be remembered for.”

“Part of that family of friends will actually be taking over the space with a new concept that will be opening sometime this summer. I’ll have a more detailed post about that soon. Check out @mimibarsea for updates and info.”

“In the meantime starting today we will be open seven days a week from 4-12ish for our last month. There are still plenty of cool beers to drink and plenty of good times to be had. So get ready for a barrage of posts and hopefully we’ll see you soon.”
