The way I’d like to congratulate Two Beers Brewing Company on successfully navigating its first seven years is by offering up a quote: “A ship is safe in harbor, but that’s not what ships are for.”
It’s been a helluva ride, that’s for sure. Since it opened seven years ago, Two Beers Brewing repeatedly proved itself absolutely fearless. Joel VandenBrink, the owner and brewmaster, stuck his neck out a few times along the way and, in most cases, earned the kind of rewards only risk can bring.
None of us should consider it a surprise to hear today’s news of more adventures brewing and more expansion blooming. No doubt, the future promises to bring more growth, more expansion, and more risk. It’s what Two Beers Brewing does. It’s what ships are for.
To begin with, let’s talk about the seven year anniversary party. Beer lovers are invited to join the celebration on Saturday, November 8th at The Woods tasting room in Sodo from 1:00 until 7:00. The party will include live music, food, and the release of two very special beers. Along with that, special prices on a large and varied selection of beers, not to mention food from one of Seattle’s favorite food trucks.
The Special Beers
Okay, here it is. A beer to haunt the dreams of all you sour beer aficionados. At the party on November 8th, Two Beers Brewing will release its 7th Anniversary Sour Ale, a golden sour that was aged in white wine barrels for 15 months. The limited release beer will be available for purchase at the tasting room in 375 mililiter bottles fo $10. It clocks in at 10 percent ABV and 20 IBUs. The beer promises to deliver, “Aromas of apricot, cherry and cranberry, alongside herbal notes of cedar and hay. Tart, funky and clean on the palate, a full-bodied oak expression underlines the whole experience.”
The other special release beer is no less impressive: Overhang Bourbon Imperial Porter, the final beer in Two Beers Brewing’s Alta Series. Available in 22-ounce, wax-dipped, screen printed bottles ($14 each), this behemoth of a beer was aged in bourbon barrels for six months with cocoa, cinnamon and a touch of clove. Not for the faint of heart, this beer weighs in at 12.9 ABV and 60 IBUs.
The Expansion
The anniversary party also serves as a lease-signing celebration. Two Beers Brewing is taking over the adjoining space to the north, where it will build a new taproom. The plan is to add seating for nearly 100 people, more taps, more outdoor space, and games like skeeball and pool. The new and expanded tasting room is scheduled to open in March. The existing tasting room will be converted into more production space for the brewery.

By the way, the quote comes from William GT Shedd, who was a great American transcendentalist thinker of the 19th century.
