The Beer Junction is an indicator species and indications are hopeful

Environmental scientists refer to salmon as an indicator species, suggesting that the health of an individual species is an indicator of the health of the overall environment. Maybe bars and restaurants are an indicator species as well. Given the impact of the pandemic, if a bar can survive, there’s hope.

These days, whenever a bar or restaurant opens back up or expands business back to something a bit closer to normal, it feels like a reason to celebrate. Case in point, The Beer Junction just announced that it has expanded its indoor seating. Limited, controlled, careful, but open. Previously, at just 25 percent capacity, and given the spacing requirements, it hardly felt like they were open at all.

“As you may have already deduced from the photo above; we have expanded our indoor seating!” said an email from The Beer Junction. “Yes, the fridges that once stood in their place are gone. Never fear, however, for we have not reduced our retail inventory by a single SKU; only condensed them. The expanded seating area is actually the culmination of a year-long project.”

“We kept ourselves busy over this summer (in the early days of the pandemic) by doing a deep clean and adding additional shelving to each door of our walk-in fridge. And, almost exactly one year later, here is the result!  Come by, stretch out your legs. and hoist a pint with us to toast the fruits of our labor.”

I love sharing news like this, so please make sure I know about similar re-openings.

An important part of The Beer Junction’s announcement involves the rules. Not just the state-mandated rules, but the house rules. Do not question the rules. Whatever a business like this needs to do to open or to expand its capabilities, you should respect that. Don’t be a jerk.
