The 7th Annual Washington Hop Mob is shaping up nicely

35 breweries, 11 events on the books so far for the 2020 Hop Mob

Adam Robbings, one of the owners of Reuben’s Brews, conceptualized Washington Hop Mob in 2013 and brought it to life in February 2014 with the help of Nat Pellman of Brouwer’s Cafe. The basic idea was to produce an event featuring triple IPAs brewed by Washington-based breweries. That event took place at Brouwer’s Cafe in Seattle, with more than a dozen triple IPAs on tap. It was an unapologetic response to the hysteria surrounding the annual release of Pliny the Younger, the ballyhooed triple IPA from California’s Russian River Brewing, which is released each year in February.

Over the years, things grew and changed. At its zenith, Hop Mob featured over 50 Washington-brewed triple IPAs. Hop Mob has always included a big kickoff event at Brouwer’s Cafe and eventually included several other, smaller “roadshow” events across the state. Over the last couple of years, it became clear that fewer breweries were interested in producing triple IPA and fewer bars were interested in hosting events focused exclusively on that style of beer, so for the upcoming 7th Annual Washington Hop Mob the scope was broadened to include any beers “showcasing a full expression of hop character.” And of course, these are beers made exclusively for Hop Mob.

As of this moment, 35 breweries have signed up to produce beers for the 2020 Washington Hop Mob. From Vancouver to Bellingham, 10 bars have agreed to host Hop Mob Roadshow events. The kickoff event is on Thursday, February 6th at Brouwer’s Cafe in Seattle. Other events will follow. More breweries and events will likely be added to the list in the coming weeks. You can keep an eye on things at the official Hop Mob website. In the meantime, here is the current schedule of events and the current list of breweries.
