“We choose the ingredients, they make the beer.” That’s the concept behind the Beveridge Place Pub (blog sponsor) Iron Brewer Competition. Like television’s Iron Chef, the participants are challenged to create something tasty using a set group of ingredients. The resulting beers compete in a head-to-head blind tasting. The crowd drinks the beers and votes for their favorites without knowing which brewery made which beer. The winner is then revealed and named the Iron Brewer champion.

The pub hosts these Iron Brewer completions throughout the year, but for Seattle Beer Week they set up a triple header and invite six breweries in to compete in three separate match-ups.

The event takes place on Sunday, May 11th from 5:00 – 8:00. This year, the theme for the Iron Brewer Triple Header is medieval. That is, the chosen ingredients all have a medieval bend to them. Here is the list of ingredients and breweries:

  • Harmon Brewing vs Triplehorn Brewing, using blackthorn sloeberry and savory.
  • Lazy Boy Brewing vs Urban Family Bay Brewing, using bilberry and clove.
  • Spinnaker Bay Brewing vs Island Hoppin’ Brewing, using apple and hyssop.
