Pike Brewing Company announces a big change at the brewery

Pike Brewing is still in Seattle, still at the Pike Place Market, but the actual brewing facility is on the move.

Pike Brewing, the Seattle-based stalwart in the craft beer industry, just announced a significant milestone in its history. After decades of crafting exceptional brews at its iconic location in the Pike Place Market neighborhood, Pike Brewing is set to bid a fond farewell to its current brewery site.

The Pike Pub and the Pike Fish Bar will remain at the First Ave location next to the Pike Place Market and continue to offer the same great selection of Pike beers paired with great food. The actual brewing facility is moving to a new home a few miles down the road. The company will usher in a new era in January 2024 when it moves brewing operations to a state-of-the-art facility located in Seattle’s SoDo neighborhood. As we understand it, there’s no plan to open a tasting room at the new brewing facility: it will serve as a production facility only.

According to Pike Brewing, the decision to relocate to a new brewing facility marks a momentous pivot in response to the company’s growth. The company says that it has embraced the opportunity to invest in a new space, one that will allow for expanded creativity, innovation, and production capacity.

“The decision to move our brewing operations to a new facility was not made lightly,” said Charles Finkel, Founder of Pike Brewing. “We have cherished the memories, the community, and the history that has been made at our current location. However, we are excited about the endless possibilities that our new facility will offer as we continue to produce exceptional craft beer.”

Distributors will no longer need to navigate Post Alley (near the Gum Wall) to pick up beer from Pike.

The existing, venerated brewing system at Pike Brewing is a gravity-flow system, which means it spans multiple floors of the building: from the street level to the lower level (the pub), and on into the basement. It’s an old-world way of making beer that is still very effective. But time marches on. Pike’s new brewing facility will offer a lot more space, and a lot more efficiently useable space, for all aspects of the process — from ingredient handling to brewing to packaging to shipping.

The new brewing facility, slated for a January 2024 opening, will be equipped with cutting-edge technology to ensure that Pike Brewing can maintain its commitment to crafting high-quality, innovative beers that continue to meet and exceed the expectations of its dedicated customer base.

Founded in 1989 as an independent craft brewery by craft beer pioneers Charles and Rose Ann Finkel, Pike Brewing has been an integral part of Seattle’s vibrant craft beer scene for more than three decades. A few years ago, the Finkels brought in some new ownership partners in the form of trusted, long-time employees. The intention was to position Pike Brewing to mature into a 100-year-old brewery.

  1. Visited in early 90s. Made be a fan. Charlie was the impresario of good beer and Rose Ann for the good beer and food message. A must stop when in Seattle. Delighted that the legend will continue!
