Kulshan Brewing is making the rest of us look lazy this summer

Man, take it easy, Kulshan Brewing. Relax a little bit, would ya? You’re making the rest of us look lazy. This summer, the Bellingham brewery opened a new location, Kulshan Trackside Beer Garden, on the waterfront in downtown Bellingham. Since its opening in June, the beer garden has been hopping. Among other things, Trackside has hosted a number of live music events. They’ve got a very special one planned that is of particular interest to Springsteen fans. More about that below.

Live music continues across town all summer at the Kulshan Sunnyland location, too. Keep an eye on Kulshan’s Facebook page and Instagram feed to stay informed.

And they just announced a whole string of beer releases. Like I said, relax, Kulshan, it’s summer. More about the beers below.

GLORY DAYS

It first occurred to me that someone at Kulshan was a Springsteen fan when I saw that the brewery’s barleywine is called Thunder Road, named after an iconic Bruce ditty. Here is the info about the Springsteen-themed night at the beer garden (August 6th).

“We’re bringing back the Glory Days with a Bruce Springsteen-themed night at Kulshan’s Trackside Beer Garden! With live music from Tramps Like Us: A Springsteen Revue, featuring John Elliott, Cumulus & more, performing from 7 to 9:30 pm. Our head brewer (and avid Bruce fan) has brewed up a special beer just for the event, Brilliant Disguise- a dry hopped pilsner.”

“This evening we will also be donating $1 of every pint sold between 6-9pm to Sweet Relief Musicians Fund, a non-profit organization that provides financial assistance to all types of career musicians and music industry workers who are struggling to make ends meet. This is going to be an evening you will not want to miss, cover charge of $5 at the door.”

“Tramps Like Us: A Springsteen Revue sings the songs of Bruce Springsteen—from 1973’s Greetings From Asbury Park to 2020’s Letter to You. Songwriters John Elliott (San Francisco) and Cumulus (Bellingham) front the band of Bellingham musicians, sharing their love for The Boss and the pure joy of singing the words out loud. This is not merely a recitation, but a celebration. Tramps Like Us celebrates 50 years of Bruce Springsteen songs that are now woven into the fabric of American culture and have no doubt saved many lives.”

BELGAIN WITBIER

Born in Brussels in the 17th century, Witbier was popular throughout Europe until the mid-1900s, when it nearly went extinct due to the damage done by two World Wars. BUSINESS TIME HAZY IPA

It’s Business Time again! Brewed with a trio of New Zealand hops, this hazy IPA is packed with juicy notes of peach, tangerine, and strawberry along with more subtle grapefruit and tropical fruit accents. A smooth and easy drinking malt body nicely compliments the big hop presence, making for a balanced and darned tasty beer. 6% ABV // 40 IBU

ESB HOPPY BRITISH ALE

ESB is a beer originally brewed by Fullers, a very old and renowned London brewery, and is in of itself not a beer style. The style is technically “Strong Bitter”, and is a medium strength British Ale that exhibits bready and lightly sweet malt notes, along with considerable floral and earthy hop character. 5.5% ABV // 35 IBU
