In a previous post, I talked about pick windows. Well, the first pick window is about to open.

This event signals the beginning of fresh hop season. For many years now, Seattle’s Two Beers Brewing gets its hands on some of the very first hops of the season to “come ready.” Most often, these are hops of the Centennial variety. That’s true again this year. You are invited to join the crew at Two Beers Brewing at The Woods tasting room for a fresh hop-picking party on Monday, July 31st.

Early Monday morning, the brewery will set off for Puterbaugh Farms near Yakima. There, they’ll chop down some bines and fill a box truck with the freshly harvested hops. They get back to the brewery with the hops that afternoon and then begin picking them, by hand, cone by cone, off the bines. That’s where you come in. After the hops are picked, they are used in a batch of beer. It’s often the first fresh hop beer of the season.

“We’ll be picking hops on the tasting room patio while partaking in a few pints, and you’re invited to join in the fun!” said the announcement on social media. “Early Monday morning our team will set off for Puterbaugh Farms to harvest fresh Centennial Hops and you’re invited to help pick fresh hop cones with us for our first-of-the-season Fresh Hop IPA.”

As always, the Woods is 21+. The Woods is also dog friendly, but fresh hops can be dangerous for dogs, so leave the pooch at home.
