Not a wildfire, but a fire nonetheless
Because people and businesses around Spokane have not endured enough recently, Lumberbeard Brewing is currently closed because of fire damage. This is not related to the wildfires that are so horribly impacting the area. By all indications, it was an act of vandalism.
“Early on the morning of August 23, our building was damaged by a vandalism fire,” Lumberbeard Brewing posted on social media. “We are incredibly grateful to the Spokane City Firefighters who responded quickly.”
The fire broke out in the wee hours of Sunday morning, at approximately 4 am. Damage from the fire was primarily contained to the west side of the building. According to a report in the Spokesman-Review, the Fire Chief reports that no one was injured and the damage was minimal. Of course, minimal is a relative term. The brewing operation was not impacted.
Lumberbeard says it will take several days to clean up and ensure the space is safe, adding, “We hope to see you out for a pint or two when we’re back open. As always, we’re thankful for your support, Spokane!”
The fire is still under investigation, but was almost certainly human-set. Bret Gordon, the owner/brewer at Lumberbeard, told the Spokesman-Review that, sadly, it doesn’t come as a big surprise, adding that it is not the first time people have set fires on the property.
