Ghostfish Brewing, Seattle’s first gluten-free brewery, is apparently the best gluten-free brewery in the nation. That is, if you trust the judges at the Great American Beer Festival (GABF), the most prestigious beer competition in the country.
The GABF awarded medals on September 26th in Denver. Of the 34 beers entered in the Gluten-Free Beer category, Ghostfish Brewing brought home the gold and silver medals. (Ground Breaker Brewing of Portland, Oregon won the silver.)
Ghostfish Brewing will celebrate the achievement on Friday, October 9th at the Brewery in Seattle’s SoDo neighborhood (2942 1st Avenue South).

Ghostfish Brewing Wins 2 Medals at the 2015 Great American Beer Festival
Seattle, WA – Jubilation filled the air this past Saturday after Ghostfish Brewing learned that they had received two medals at the 34th annual Great American Beer Festival (GABF) competition.
Watchstander Stout won the gold medal in the Gluten-Free Beer category, and Grapefruit IPA won the bronze medal in the same Gluten-Free Beer category. Both of these fine beers are available in the taproom as well as being sold in convenient packages in numerous retail locations throughout western Washington.
“To win one medal is hard enough in such a competitive field, but to win two medals amongst the 6,647 beers entered was truly an incredible surprise,” says co-founder and director of operations Randy Schroeder. “Although we are a young brewery, our focus since day one has been on the quality of our beer. To receive accreditation like this from such a prestigious beer competition confirms that we are moving in the right direction. We are very thankful to everyone who has supported us since we opened earlier this year and we can’t wait to create many more fantastic beers for everyone to enjoy.”
Presented by the Brewers Association, GABF is the largest national beer competition that recognizes the most outstanding beers produced in the United States.
“American brewers continue to create innovative, flavorful high quality beers. That was on full display at this year’s Great American Beer Festival,” said Chris Swersey, competition manager, Great American Beer Festival. “The Great American Beer Festival continues to showcase the best this country’s brewers have to offer, with the competition growing and becoming ever more competitive. Congratulations to all participants and especially this year’s winners.”
To celebrate this momentous achievement, Ghostfish Brewing will be holding a celebration event on Friday, October 9th at the brewery taproom; open to the public 21 years of age or older.
