Beer. Bacon. There, now do I have your attention? I know Seattle Beer Week can be overwhelming. Not only for beer drinkers, but also for breweries who are swamped with requests to participate in events. I get it. Everyone is busy. But, there is one particular event I want to tell you about because it is a bit different than other Beer Week events: The Bacon and Beer Classic at Safeco Field. I think this would be an uncommonly cool event whether it was part of Beer Week or not.
The Bacon and Beer Classic is a beer and food festival at Safeco Field on Saturday, May 17. (Two sessions.) It is not a game day event. It is not prior to, or following, a Mariners game. The event organizers, basically, rented the ballpark for a festival featuring craft beer and bacon-inspired food from local restaurants. Along with all that, there will be live music, interactive games and other festivities. Visit the website for details and ticket info.
The event organizers are still seeking brewery and restaurant participants. They currently have a dozen breweries signed up (or thereabouts) and are looking for more. Click here if you are interested in participating. Or you can contact me and I’ll hook you up with the event organizers.
A beer fest at the ballpark, with bacon. Pretty cool. You need not know me well to know that I’m a lifelong Mariners fan and am even branded with the team logo on my right arm. To me, the cozy confines of Safeco Field is one of the best places on earth to enjoy a beer.
Given the nature of the event, I expect it will attract a slightly different kind of crowd than most Beer Week events, but that’s pure conjecture on my part. I’m imagining something more closely resembling the crowd at Hop Scotch or Seattle International Beerfest.
Cannon Ball Productions is organizing this event. This is the first in a series of Bacon and Beer Classic events at big league ballparks across the country.
From the event website:
The bacon and beer classic is a one-of-a-kind event hosted inside major league baseball stadiums across America. It is a premier experience focused on traditions where one’s nostalgia of baseball meets their love for bacon and beer. As the up to 10,000 attendees walk through the stadium they will get a taste of history through the hundreds of craft brew samples and mouth-watering bacon-inspired tastes local restaurants cook up. Live music will get people dancing, interactive games will bring out their inner kid, and the cooking demos and beer schools will teach everyone – from the expert to the novice – a thing or two about bacon and beer.
Our events are always ALL INCLUSIVE. From the moment you walk into the park, it’s all about the experience, and not about opening up your wallet.
