Bale Breaker Brewing and Humble Abode Brewing among the many breweries involved in the Ales for ALS project

The Ales for ALS™ party at Bale Breaker Brewing is an all-ages day of fun, beer, music, food, and fundraising. Proceeds benefit research to end ALS. The event happens at the company’s taproom and beer garden in Yakima on Saturday, June 28. The event also serves as the release of Bale Breaker Brewing’s annual Ales for ALS beer, Bubba’s Brew. For each pint sold, they’ll donate $1 to ALS-TDI. The event is just one of many, and so is the beer. Overall, Ales for ALS is a much bigger project.

Bale Breaker is just one of the many breweries creating an Ales for ALS beer, and theirs is just one of many events. For instance, Humble Abode Brewing in Downtown Spokane is hosting an event on Saturday, June 21. This year, over 30 events are scheduled across the country.

“Ales for ALS is our most important event of the year, because the cause is most near and dear to our hearts,” said Bale Breaker Brewing on Instagram. “After the 9th member of our family was diagnosed with the degenerative disease of ALS, Cheryl and Mike Smith (owners of @loftusranches and parents of our owners) knew they had to do something to help.”

Ales for ALS is a project that sees breweries across the nation and around the world brew beers with a special hop. Each year Yakima Chief Hops and master brewers develop a unique hop blend exclusively for the Ales for ALS program. Like each of the many Ales for ALS events, all of the beers brewed with the hop blend raise money for ALS research. Over the years, nearly 300 breweries have participated in the program. “It started out in 2013 (the first year of Bale Breaker) as a simple idea to donate hops to a few brewers in the community to raise money for ALS, but Ales for ALS has now grown into a WORLDWIDE fundraiser that has raised over $8 million for @alstdi,” the Bale Breaker statement explained. “It is at the heart and soul of our company, and we couldn’t do it without all your support.”
