In September 2024, Anderson Valley Brewing Company of Boonville, California, announced it was for sale. Today, we share the happy news that someone stepped up to buy the 37-year-old brewery and help write the next chapter of the AVBC story. This is the second time in the past six years that the brewery has changed hands. Before that, the brewery saw an ownership change in 2010.
“We’re excited to announce a new chapter in Anderson Valley Brewing Company’s life, with a change in ownership to local entrepreneur Jason McConnell,” said an announcement from Anderson Valley Brewing. “Jason takes the helm with decades of experience in the wine industry, and a passion for local events and high-quality drinks.”
McConnell is an entrepreneur and an industry veteran. In 2008, he co-founded Rivino Estate Vineyard and Winery in Ukiah, which is not too far away from Anderson Valley. Revino Estate is described as an event venue and destination. Anderson Valley Brewing is not too different: the brewery and its taproom sit on a 30-acre property that includes an outdoor music venue, a disc golf course, and 10,000 square feet of sprawling lawn. Collectively, it’s called the Beer Park.
The brewery, the Beer Park, the town of Boonville, and the entire Anderson Valley are worthwhile destinations. About an hour Northwest of Santa Rosa, between Highway 101 and the Pacific Ocean, it is a sparsely populated, rural, beautiful, and generally undiscovered corner of California with a lively wine industry and its own language. Literally, Boontling is a secret, hyper-localized language that dates back to the 1800s. It is only spoken in Boonville. Anderson Valley is a special and uncommon place.
In early May, Anderson Valley Brewing hosts its annual beer festival. The event takes place at the Mendocino County Fairgrounds, less than one mile from the brewery. It draws breweries, brewers, and beer lovers from the entire West Coast and beyond. Over 60 breweries and cider producers will pour at the event on Saturday, May 10th.
“This will be an era of innovation and rejuvenation, while remaining true to the amazing brews you’ve come to know and love over the years,” said the announcement. “We can’t wait to see you at Beer Fest – and if you’re passing through, swing in to Beer Park and say hi!”
