Whistle Punk Brewing recently opened its second location in the Spokane area. The original taproom in downtown Spokane remains open on Monroe Street. The new location is a bit to the east, about eight miles away in the nearby community of Millwood. In fact, the new Whistle Punk Brewing location is the former home of Millwood Brewing. By all accounts, it was a busy weekend at the new Whistle Punk brewery and taproom in Millwood. Earlier this week, as I sipped a fabulous Tmave Pivo (dark Czech-style lager) at Whistle Punk’s downtown taproom, I spoke with brewer/owner Matt Hanson. He told me that they’re still getting up to speed on the new-to-them brewing system but he expects that it won’t take long to get things dialed in.
A bit about Whistle Punk Brewing. The name is an old logging term that refers to the person who blew the whistle on the steam donkey, which was once an important piece of steam-powered equipment in the logging biz. Whistle Punk (the brewery) is a lager-focused brewery spawned nearly a decade ago by father-son team Craig and Matt Hanson. The brewery started brewing and distributing beer to local pubs and restaurants in 2015 and opened its downtown taproom in 2017.
Here is some of the critical info about the new Whistle Punk Brewing location:
- It is located at 9013 E. Frederick Avenue in Millwood.
- The hours are the same at both locations: Mon-Thurs 3-9pm; Fri-Sat 1-10pm; Sun 1-7pm.
- The new location is all-ages.
- Dogs are welcome on the patio.
- If the parking lot is full, there is overflow parking in the neighborhood, but do not park in other businesses’ parking lots. Ever.
- Outside food is welcome. For now, at least, while Whistle Punk is bringing its kitchen together.
