Tonya Cornett receives the Russell Schehrer Award for Innovation

Winners of the 2024 Brewers Association Awards.

The Brewers Association announced today that a familiar Northwest brewer, Tonya Cornett, has received the Russell Schehrer Award for Innovation in Craft Brewing.

Today the Brewers Association announced the recipients of this year’s Industry Awards. Since 1987, the association has recognized individuals who have positively contributed to the craft beer community. The 2024 award recipients will be honored for their dedication and service during a special ceremony on April 23, 2024, at the Craft Brewers Conference® (CBC) in Las Vegas. Tonya Cornett is one of those recipients. Tonya Cornett (top left) has a long history of creating great beers in the Pacific Northwest. After starting her career at breweries in Indiana and Colorado, she set her sights on education, receiving her formal brewing education at the World Brewing Academy, a partnership between Siebel Institute of Technology in Chicago, and Doemens Academy in Munich, Germany.

After graduating from the program, she became the brewmaster at Bend Brewing Company in Bend, Oregon in 2002. In 2008, Tonya became the first woman to be awarded World Beer Cup Small Brewpub Brewer of the Year. In 2012 she moved on to 10 Barrel Brewing to become the senior innovation brewer. She now leads a team of exceptionally talented brewers. Tonya’s medals and accolades are too numerous to mention. Combined, her beers have earned 28 medals at the Great American Beer Festival and the World Beer Cup.

Congratulations to all of this year’s recipients. You can read more about Tonya Cornett and this year’s other awards recipients here.
