Kulshan Brewing of Bellingham, Washington wanted to step up and create a beer that supported their community during this time of crisis. With the help of some of their suppliers, Thirst Aid Kit was born. Proceeds from the beer benefit the Bellingham Food Bank.

Today (Thursday, April 30), we are thrilled to announce the release of a brand new IPA inspired by the strength and resilience of our Bellingham community. These unusual times have tried us in extraordinary ways and we are feeling a wealth of gratitude for not just our customer base who have continued to support us by utilizing our curbside pick up and delivery programs, but also to all of those at the front lines of this pandemic: essential workers, health care professionals, emergency responders, non-profits working to take care of the sick or in need and many more. The craft beer presence in Bellingham is strong, but the sense of community here is much stronger.

At the beginning of COVID-19 we felt grief for the loss of life as we knew it, and along with many others, a great deal of uncertainty for what was to come. As the situation unfolded, we scrambled to keep up with the evolution of the stay at home order and what that meant for our business and community members. With all of this unknowing surrounding us, we felt compelled to act, to do something to soften the blow. During one of our first Zoom meetings, we talked about ideas of how best to be of service, while remaining safe and keeping our ship afloat. It was decided to stick with what we know best – beer. With this, the idea of a Thirst Aid Kit was born – a beer brewed with the intention to give back to the Bellingham community somehow.

We set out coordinating logistics between our team members and vendors. Our graphic designer Cameron Jennings generously donated his time to create the design for this can, and our friend Ken C. Vartanian at Richmark Labels donated half of our label order for this beer. To them, we are incredibly grateful.

We had many ideas regarding where to direct proceeds from this beer and ultimately decided to wait until the beer was ready to see where resources were needed most in our community at that time. Now that the beer is ready, we’ve determined benefitting the Bellingham Food Bank would serve the greatest amount of people left in need by this pandemic.
