James Beard Award nominee, Kristi Brown, brings culturally inspired cuisine to Métier Brewing Company’s Seattle taproom

The announcement from Métier Brewing Company was understated. The company’s October newsletter introduced Lil’ Brown Girl, a new quick-service restaurant operating at Métier’s taproom in Seattle–MBC Cherry St. Lil Brown Girl is described as “a quick-service restaurant dedicated to serving favorite dishes from That Brown Girl Cooks!”

Wait. What?

Kristi Brown is the culinary maestro behind That Brown Girl Cooks! as well as a Seattle restaurant called COMMUNION Restaurant and Bar. It is one of the hottest tickets in town. Kristi, and the businesses, have been nominated for a James Beard Award in recognition of an inspired dedication to authentic flavors and culinary narratives that embrace the rich melting pot of Seattle’s culture. The menu features a variety of dishes crafted with care and inspired by family traditions and the neighborhoods surrounding the Central District. That Brown Girl Cooks! caters and now operates two restaurants.

Lil’ Brown Girl at MBC Cherry St. represents a collaboration bringing together craft beer and Seattle soul cuisine. It also brings together two Black-owned businesses. Lil Brown Girl features the same kinds of delicious dishes found at COMMUNION but at a lower price point. Lil Brown Girl celebrated its grand opening on October 16th.

According to a press release, the menu at Lil’ Brown Girl features dishes that pay homage to the community’s vibrant history and heritage, from a golden and juicy chicken sandwich to TBGC!’s infamous black-eyed pea hummus. The menu items are curated to pair with Métier Brewing Company’s brews, including fan favorites like the Kölsch and Horizon IPA. Lil’ Brown Girl is the first quick-service restaurant concept from the mother-and-son duo, providing FOOD THATS GOOD TO EAT.

“It’s a celebration of our community,” shares Chef Kristi Brown, “a partnership with MBC and TBGC! allows us to foster a space that feels like home, akin to COMMUNION, where people can come together, share stories, and enjoy delicious food and drinks. MBC will offer a carefully curated range of craft beers perfectly paired with our menu offerings. Their dedication to quality and community perfectly aligns with our vision, making this collaboration a seamless match.”
