2021 Hop Mob – 15 beers and now one event

Along with Adam Robbings from Reuben’s Brews and Nat Pellman from Brouwer’s Cafe, I have helped organize Washington Hop Mob for the past several years. Basically a series of events in February each year. In a previous post, I explain what Hop Mob is all about.

Today, I’m announcing that there will be at least one Hop Mob event this year, taking place at The Brewmaster’s Taproom. See the details below. Perhaps other locations will read this post and get ideas. If so, they can contact me and we’ll talk about it.

In the past, we’ve seen as many as 50 breweries make beer for the annual Washington Hop Mob project, with as many as a dozen different locations hosting events. Obviously, things are completely different this year.

To date, we have 14 breweries signed up to brew 15 beers. New this year, many of those beers will be available in cans. You can see the list of breweries producing Hop Mob beers this year on the official website.

Honestly, it felt a bit insensitive to ask breweries or bars to get involved. Things are tough out there. I honestly did not expect anyone to step up and offer to host any kind of event this year. If any other bars or taprooms want to host an event, and can actually pull it off, please reach out to me.

The Brewmaster’s Taproom Hop Mob Event

As is the case with every other small business like this, The Brewmaster’s Taproom has faced some serious adversary lately. Yes, the pandemic has restricted the taproom to nothing but outdoor seating, but to make matters worse, a plumbing issue in the building recently caused a flood. Oye! You’ve got to be kidding!

Still, in the face of it all, The Brewmaster’s Taproom is hosting a two-day Hop Mob Roadshow event, as they’ve done for the past several years. The lineup isn’t as robust as years-gone-by, but they are doing it. The event will have two components: an onsite tasting opportunity and a to-go option.

On February 12th and 13th, The Brewmaster’s Taproom will offer a flight of five Hop Mob beers. On top of that, they’ll offer a mix-pack of four of the Hop Mob beers in cans.
