The Single Hill Commons opens in Ballard

Very softly and very quietly, Single Hill Brewing opened its new taproom in Ballard the other day. We stopped by on Saturday to check out the new digs and welcome the Yakima-based brewery to Seattle. The official opening happens on Tuesday, August 13th. We originally told you about this plan in a previous story. (Photos by Kim Jones.)

Located at the corner of 24th Avenue NW and NW 64th Street, Single Hill Commons occupies a street-level retail space in an apartment building. It is the former home of Outpouring Bottleshop. The space is washed in natural light from the ceiling-height windows and a roll-up door that opens to a small patio.

Along with Single Hill Brewing beers, a few taps are dedicated to guest breweries. You’ll also discover a curated collection of wine, cider, and other beverages. Reach-in coolers offer options, including a lovely selection of Single Hill beers to go. There’s no kitchen at Single Hill Commons, but there are plenty of food options nearby. Because it is licensed as a tavern, state regulations make this a 21+ establishment.

Access to Single Hill Brewing’s Catalog of Beers

Single Hill Brewing opened six years ago in Yakima and has distributed beer across the Seattle area for the past five years. This is the company’s first retail location west of the Cascade Mountains and will offer folks in Seattle greater access to the breadth of the brewery’s portfolio of beers. Single Hill produces over 70 different beers each year, many of which you won’t find on a grocery store shelf, but you will find at the Yakima taproom and now at the Single Hill Commons.

“We know that the modern craft beer drinker likes options,” said Andrew Pytel, Director of Sales & Marketing for Single Hill. “They’re keeping an eye out for the newest releases every time they go out, so we give them what they want. Each month we release multiple IPAs, a fruited sour ale, a lager, and a rotating list of other beer styles to keep things fresh. All of these releases will be available on draft and in cans at the Commons.”

Beyond the beer, the Single Hill Commons also offers a wide selection of other beverages, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic options. This is an intentional decision, recognizing the broadening interests of today’s imbibers.

“We’re so very excited to bring Single Hill to Seattle and Single Hill is an organization all about community,” Pytel said. “The opportunity to share more of our beer in a dedicated space that we’re curating is wonderful. That said, building a community around a tavern isn’t as simple as it used to be. A group of friends going out for a drink won’t all be drinking beer, so we’re making sure that we can take care of those who are gluten-free, or sober, without it feeling like an afterthought.”

The Single Hill Commons will open its doors to the public at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, August 13th. Because it is licensed as a tavern, state law dictates that this is a 21+ establishment.
