I’ve been preaching this one for the past few years: nowadays, beer festivals have to be about more than just the beer. The beer alone doesn’t cut it anymore. You need an experience, an occasion, a genuine happening — something that makes people show up even if they’re only casual beer fans. As it has always done, Fremont Oktoberfest checks every one of those boxes, and then some. Lots of great beer, for sure, but also a lot of festival.

Fremont has hosted some form of an Oktoberfest celebration since 1997. Seattle’s largest annual beer festival takes to the streets on September 18, 19, and 20, and if you’ve never been, here’s the deal: three days of craft beer, good food, and the kind of lively chaos that only a street festival can produce. The kind of frivolity for which Fremont is famous. This iconic event returns with a rotating lineup of seasonal brews — local favorites pouring right alongside unique flavors pulled in from around the globe, because apparently, Fremont doesn’t believe in half-measures. The self-proclaimed “center of the universe” doesn’t do understated very well.
