From your local pub to the last big beer festival you attended, it’s pretty obvious that there are still more men than women in the craft beer world. It’s great to see more women out tasting and enjoying beer than in years past, but we are usually still vastly outnumbered by our male counterparts.
With few exception, most women in the brewing industry are in supporting roles. Head brewers get the spotlight, while the women are in the background managing the marketing, sales and accounting.
That’s a big reason why Pike’s Women in Brewing event came about three years ago – to give local lovers of craft beer an opportunity to shine a spotlight on the women of our local beer industry. And the women who love the beer that’s produced. The overall result is a joyous occasion for us ladies who love beer, a chance to outnumber the men for a change. A chance for our beer drinking voices to converse with other ladies of beer without risk of being drown out.
Pike is a natural host for the event, with co-owner and co-founder Rose Ann Finkel standing alongside husband Charles as the company’s figurehead, plus women working in the brewery, sales, marketing and more.
The Women in Brewing event at Pike Brewing is one of our favorite events of Seattle Beer Week. Details and ticket information are below. Tickets are $35 plus service fees, and advance tickets are encouraged – this is one of the SBW events that typically sells out.
Admittance includes tastes from breweries with women at the helm, whether as brewer like Spinnaker Bay, or behind the scenes like Airways. There’s also a variety of non-beery treats from women-run businesses including cider, cheeses, small bites from local restaurants and bakeries, and sips from local distilleries.
