Scuttlebutt Brewing invites you to guess the hop to win a prize

“Guess that hop variety” is a game that my wife, Kim, and I play. She’s way better at it than I am. What’s her advantage? To her, Azacca hops taste like mango. To me, mango tastes like Azacca hops. I drink a lot more beer than I do eat mangos.

Anyway, it’s always fun to challenge your palate to recognize hop flavors, though it’s getting increasingly difficult given all the new hop varieties that our friendly farmers continually introduce. You need some clues to point you in the right direction.

Scuttlebutt Brewing of Everett, Washington has a challenge for all you hop heads. Its simple, taste the beer and guess the hop. To assist you in your sleuthing, the brewery will provide clues via its social media channels. Correctly guess the hop variety and you’ll get a prize.

Scuttlebutt Brewing Releases New Beer with Mystery Hops for Customers to Guess to Win Prize

Hitting shelves Tuesday March 16, Scuttlebutt Brewing’s Sherlock Haze Hazy IPA mystery begins! Brewers, Eric Nord and Adam Chittick, have designed a beer with three mysterious and delicious hops that they are encouraging beer geeks, hop heads and beer detectives to taste and guess.

If beer sleuths can guess the hops correctly, one winner will be chosen for a FREE night out for two. The night out will feature: tasting and a tour at Scuttlebutt Brewery & Taproom on Cedar St in North Everett, Escape Room at Escape Everett, Dinner at Scuttlebutt Pub on the Everett Marina and a night stay at the new Indigo Hotel next to the pub.

The Sherlock Haze Hazy IPA is a New England style IPA with 16 IBU’s and 6.2% ABV.

It has pillowy body and boasts big tropical aromas of pineapple, mango and papaya with a dank undertone. Flavors of stone fruit, citrus and subtle rye bread. Head Brewer Eric Nord is excited about the beer because while he has held his title over the last few years, the brewery has evolved using new techniques, hops and styles.

This beer is a continuation of that change. He says although the beer is delicious, the Sherlock Haze Mystery Hop Contest is, “not an easy task but there are a couple of pretty distinct flavors that should be pretty good clues as to what we used.” Nord was able to give information on one hop of four total in the Hazy IPA, Chinook, used to bitter most of Scuttlebutt’s brews.

Detectives can keep an eye out on Scuttlebutt’s Instagram @scuttlebuttbrewing and Facebook @scuttlebutttaproom for clues. For those interested in trying the beer, looking to find where it is at and how to enter the contest, head to the Contest page at scuttlebuttbrewing.com.

Beer will also be available at both the Taproom & Brewery location on Cedar St and the Pub location on the Everett Marina. The deadline to enter is April 11 th , 2021.

Each person gets one entry per week. One winner will be announced April 16 th , 2021.
