The Seattle Mariners superstar catcher is going to have a beer
Anyone who’s been paying attention knows that Cal Raleigh is having an amazing year. Historic, really. He’s achieving things that only the greatest catchers in the history of baseball have achieved. As of this moment, the Seattle Mariners catcher is leading Major League Baseball in homeruns and is near the top of the list in other offensive categories. Away from the ballpark, Cal Raleigh has been working on something else: a partnership with Everett, Washington’s Scuttlebutt Brewing.
In August, Scuttlebutt Brewing will release Big Dumper Beer, which the brewery created with input from the Cal Raleigh himself. The beer is described as a crisp, crushable lager. They’ll debut the beer at a special release event at the brewery in Everett. Thereafter, it will be available in select markets and at select stadiums. Beyond the beer itself, the partnership will include co-branded merchandise, charity events, and exclusive fan experiences.
Cal Raleigh has come up through the Seattle Mariners system and his time in the minor leagues included a stint with the Everett Aquasox, which is when he first came across Scuttlebutt Brewing.
“Partnering with Scuttlebutt is a no-brainer,” said Cal Raleigh. “They represent everything I love about the PNW—creative, local, and all about quality. I’ve been a fan of their beers since I first visited the Taproom during my time in Everett, and now I get to be part of the crew. Excited to work with a Washington original.”

The term dumper is not usually flattering when talking about a beer, referring to a beer that is more dumpable than drinkable, but in this case it refers to Cal’s nickname, Big Dumper. Naming it Big Dumper Beer is a clever twist on the beer term, since Scuttlebutt is not the kind of brewery that makes dumpable beers. The irony is perfect.
