For the uninitiated, let me introduce the Grit and Grain Podcast. Unlike many podcasts about beer, this one isn’t really about beer. It’s beer-adjacent, or beer-tangential. Yes, it involves people drinking and talking about beer, but it also is about Tacoma, and the conversations often drift into other, unexpected dimensions. It is recorded at Peaks and Pints and is hosted by a group of Tacoma area beer industry insiders who are easily distracted, which his what makes the Grit and Grain Podcast so fun. I was recently a guest on the podcast. In fact, we did a doubleheader. One episode dropped on Friday, June 13th and the other drops on Friday, June 20th.
I’m a beer guy with a Tacoma hook. My four older siblings and I were all born in Tacoma during the mid-Cenozoic era. Though I moved away when I was young, my family maintained ties with their Tacoman friends and family. Whenever I round the curve at Fife and head cross the mighty Puyallup River, the memories come flooding back, invited or not.

My Tacomaness was just a part of the conversation on the Grit and Grain Podcast. My aimless ramblings included stories about playing with my Tonka toys in the front yard during a tornado, hijacking someone else’s underpants, surviving a rock and roll shitshow, and more. Oh, we talked about beer, too. It was fun as hell. One of my most ruthless critics even said it was quite entertaining. And that’s just the first of two episodes. What were they thinking? Don’t they know I can blather on for hours?
