On Saturday, June 28th, at noon, a statue of Lenny Wilkins will be unveiled in front of Climate Pledge Arena. It is a fitting tribute to the most legendary of all Seattle Sonics legends. A player, a coach, a player-coach, and the only three-time inductee in the Basketball Hall of Fame. That’s just the start. I’ll leave you to your own devices if you are unaware of Lenny’s amazing accomplishments.

Following the unveiling, head down to Queen Anne Beerhall for the after-party. The event will include live music spun by DJ Topspin, player appearances, merchandise from Simple Seattle (Sonics merch), and a raffle for artwork by Keegan Hall. The Queen Anne Beerhall is also championing an effort to extend the street now known as Lenny Wilkins Way. It is currently a short, two-block stretch next to Climate Pledge Arena but the hope is to extend it an additional four blocks, all the way to the Western Avenue. Basically, extend it all the way to the Queen Anne Beerhall’s front door. Learn more and sign the petition here

The message from the Beerhall: “Lenny Wilkens is more than a basketball icon—he’s a champion, a Hall of Famer, and a tireless advocate for our community. His influence reaches far beyond the court, shaping the heart of Seattle for decades.”

“Yet Lenny Wilkens Way ends abruptly at First Ave N—falling short of representing the legacy he’s built. We believe it should extend to Elliott Ave W. This small adjustment won’t disrupt city flow, but it will send a powerful message: that we fully honor the scope of Lenny’s contributions.”

“Let’s give this legend the recognition he deserves. Join us in calling for the extension of Lenny Wilkens Way—a street that should reflect the full length of his impact.”

Sign the petition. Let’s do right by Lenny.
