Pint Defiance, a specialty beer shop and taproom in Tacoma, is about to celebrate its third anniversary and you’re invited. Officially, the anniversary falls on September 10th but the celebration lasts all weekend, with the main celebration happening on Saturday the 12th—cake, giveaways, a killer tap list, and the release of a special 3rd Anniversary beer brewed in collaboration with Airways Brewing: Strip Mall Riot IPA.
Throughout the weekend, the tap lineup will rotate to include one-off beers and coveted beers from beloved breweries like Fremont, Barley Brown’s, Breakside, Goose Island (Bourbon County), Trinity, Georgetown, Reuben’s Brews, Airways, and many others.
About the Anniversary Beer
Pint Defiance’s Barry Watson (owner) and R.J. Adler (assistant manager, pictured above) teamed up with Alex Dittmar (also pictured above) at Airways Brewing to create an approachable, yet unique IPA. Alex suggested brewing the beer using only New Zealand hop varieties along with a new yeast strain with which he’d been experimenting.
Built on the basic backbone of two-row pale malted barley, Strip Mall Riot IPA focuses on the hops: Nelson Sauvin, Wakatu, and Motueka. They brewed the beer using a technique known as hop-bursting, adding most or all of the hops very near the end of the boil to produce a bright, juicy-fruit flavor and aroma. They decided to name the beer Strip Mall Riot IPA as a gentle, self-deprecating jab at the somewhat generic retail plazas in which both Pint Defiance and Airways are located.
Strip Mall Riot IPA will be available on draft and in 22-ounce bottles starting September 12th.
