Opportunity for the right brewery at Tumwater’s Craft District

The Craft District is an emerging commercial development located in the shadow of the old Olympia Brewing Company facility in Tumwater, Washington. It is situated between the Deschutes River, Capitol Boulevard, and Interstate 5. Working in conjunction with the City of Tumwater, The Craft District is creating a unique purpose-built development that focuses on providing “all things Craft.” That includes an opportunity for a craft brewery.

This project has been ongoing for a while now. The last time I reported on The Craft District, I shared the news that Ninkasi Brewing intended to open at the location. Since that report in mid-2019, a lot has changed. Ninkasi faced all the pandemic-related challenges, of course, but also navigated some other changes. Apparently, for whatever reason, Ninkasi is not moving forward with the previously reported plan.

The Craft District recently contacted me with information about an opportunity for a craft brewer. “We are looking for the right brewery to join the District, as either one of a couple taprooms or an anchor brewery or brewpub,” said an email from The Craft District.

“The site is currently occupied by our first building housing the Heritage Distillery and the South Puget Sound Community College (SPSCC) brewing, distilling, and cidermaking program. We are currently under construction on two new buildings, which will include a Winery, Cidery, Restaurant, Bakery, Coffee Shop, Retail Boutique, Barber, and beer garden wrapped with food trucks. We are looking for the right brewery to join this tenant mix!”

“These are just three of the six buildings which will surround a large outdoor amphitheater and are accessible from a pedestrian trail system along the Deschutes River, Interstate-5, and the major arterial Capitol Boulevard. We will also be developing 96 units of mid to high-end multifamily housing located just south of the site starting this year.”

It’s described as a highly visible site within walking distance of the Tumwater Golf Course, the Valley Athletic Club, and many private and state-run businesses. Interested parties should reach out to Alex Schmidt at alex.craftdistrict@outlook.com.
