Don’t freak out. Doug Hindman isn’t going anywhere. Primarily plying his skills at the brewhouse in Burien, Doug remains the head brewer; however, there’s a new face in the West Seattle brewhouse. Dan Ashley has been at the controls in West Seattle for about a month now. He comes with an impressive brewing pedigree that includes two notable California breweries — Speakeasy Brewing in San Francisco and Moylan’s Brewery in Novato.
Dan Ashley’s first recipe contribution at Elliott Bay is currently in the works. Reportedly, it is a California-style IPA. This bit of happy news causes me to think of two California beers that are particularly yummy — Speakeasy’s Big Daddy IPA and Moylan’s Hopsicle Imperial Ale. If Dan had a hand in crafting either of those beers, we can expect his first Washington ale to be a winner.
The blog bids a fond farewell to Chris Hemminger, whom Dan replaces at Elliott Bay. In his two-plus years with Elliott Bay, Chris’ contributions to the line up included Mashing Pumpkin, Dark Side Wit, Imperial Stout, and Firegold. Chris is moving on to explore new avenues for applying his passion and many skills.
