Meet The Redd Dog, Tacoma’s first u-pour pub

Sit. Stay. Drink! That’s the idea at Tacoma’s first self-serve, craft-focused beer bar. The Redd Dog opened for business on July 5th, 2021 at 2805 6th Avenue in Tacoma, very near two other Tacoma beer landmarks: The Red Hot and the E9 Firehouse and Gastropub.

Photos from Instagram. Redd is excited that they named the pub after him.

“Come in and make yourself at home,” said the announcement from the pub. “Seriously, you pour your own drinks around here! No need to wait for a server. Pour as little or as much as you’d like.”

The Redd Dog boasts over 24 taps along with a menu offering pizza, pub grub, salads, and more. Again, don’t wait for a server, just order your food using your phone. Family-friendly for humans only, though service dogs are welcome of course. You might see Redd hanging out his pub, but know that he’s a registered service dog.

It is said that we should all strive to be the people that our dogs think we are. Redd Dog apparently thinks that his people are the kind of people who want to make their fellow humans happy with beer, so Lane and Jamie Scelzi decided to open a pub.

“The tap wall at #TheReddDog is a sight to behold for craft beer lovers,” said the announcement. “Load up your Pour Card with the friendly Beerista and choose your brew. Insert your card and watch the digital screen calculate how many ounces you’re pouring and what you’re paying. From a small sample to a full growler, it’s all up to you. And if you aren’t much of a beer fan, The Redd Dog also has cider, kombucha, and wine.”

The vibe is described as comfortable and laid back, open to all pedigrees and strays. “No need to beg here; if you want to order food, you simply scan one of the QR codes found around the pub and choose your treats. While you wait, play a game of shuffleboard, watch a game on one of many screens, or enjoy the perks of the Yappy Times specials throughout the week (think Taco Tuesday, half-off wine taps on Wednesday, College night on Thursday, etc).”
