I Sure Know How to Pick a Winner! Congrats to Reuben's Brews

I am thrilled to report that Reuben’s Brews in Ballard won three medals from the 2012 World Beer Championships: a gold medal for its American Brown, a silver medal for its Roggenbier, and a bronze medal for its American Rye. It is good news for Reuben’s Brews and it is also good news for me.

If you had to suggest just one beer to the readers of Seattle magazine, what would it be? What would you say is your “must-try beer?” The audience is diverse, including some beer geeks, some beer newbies, and some people who really do not care for beer at all. The November issue of Seattle will include my one pick – my “must-try beer.” Because I do not consider myself omniscient and do not like using the word best to describe beer, picking just one beer is not as easy as it sounds. It is like asking me which of my dogs I love more.

I am very happy for Adam Robbings, owner/brewer at Reuben’s Brews. His brewery just opened its doors in August (we were there) and is already winning medals. That is impressive. Best of all, for me anyway, the “must-try beer” that I suggested in the upcoming issue of Seattle just won a medal. When that issue hits the shelves in a few days, I will look like a genius. Reuben’s Brews American Brown

Murky brown color. Aromas of salty roasted nuts and pretzels, cocoa, and clay with a supple, dry-yet-fruity medium body and a smoky and piney, herbal hop accented finish. Pleasant and very food friendly.

Bright golden yellow color. Spic and span like aromas of dried lemon peel, lavender talc, thyme, and seltzer water with a supple, dry-yet-fruity medium-to-full body and a spicy rye, peppercorn, jasmine tea, and honey buttered roasted corn cob finish.
