Seattle Beer Week is rapidly approaching. The official SBW beer is now hitting the streets, T-shirts are available, and the events calendar is quickly filling up. The 16th annual beer celebration spans eight days, from May 9th to May 17th, with events held at several locations around the city. You can see the events calendar here.
For example, Beveridge Place Pub will host its annual Seattle Cask-O-Rama event, with firkins lined up on the bar, serving a selection of cask beers from Seattle breweries. Queen Anne Beer Hall hosts its Brewers Night Wing Competition, which sees 15 local breweries create wing recipes and compete for the title and a spot on the Beer Hall’s menu. Reuben’s Brews hosts Haze Fest, which will tickle lovers of hazy beers with at least 16 hazy brews on the menu. Those are just a few highlights. There are many other events planned. Keep an eye on the events calendar; more events will be added.
In addition to the events, dozens of Seattle-area breweries collaborated this year on a special beer for the occasion. The beer, named Group Project, is described as a light German-style lager. It is available in cans at retailers around Seattle and will be on tap at many bars around town. The official, ceremonial tapping of the draft beer will take place on May 9th at Urban Family Brewing in the Ballard neighborhood.
Many people are eager to get their hands on an official Seattle Beer Week T-shirt. Those are now available from the official Seattle Beer Week website. Order yours here. If you are wondering about the cat theme on this year’s T-shirt, as well as the cat theme on the beer’s labeling, that’s a nod to Matt Younts. He was one of the founders of Seattle Beer Week and a longtime industry professional and beer advocate. Sadly, Matt passed last year. Matt had a thing for cats.
