The brewery, known for its amazing location on Lake Union (pictured above), shares some big expansion news
Gasworks Brewing shared some big news on social media today. It is opening a new production brewery in Seattle’s SoDo neighborhood, which will also include a taproom. The location is familiar to local beer hounds: it’s the former home of Two Beers Brewing and Seattle Cider Company (4660 Ohio Ave S, Seattle, WA 98134). The news comes on the heels of the announcement that the company’s owner is opening a new brewery and taproom near Green Lake in Seattle.
At the new-to-them location, Gasworks Brewing will operate a brand-new 20-barrel brewhouse that will fill 20-, 40-, and 60-barrel tanks. The expanded capacity will allow the brewery to better meet demand at its taproom on Lake Union and even distribute some beer.
“Over the first couple of years, Gasworks Brewing has had the pleasure of serving thousands of our neighbors, local customers, and Seattle visitors,” said the statement on Instagram. “Despite all of our planning efforts, our mighty 5bbl system cannot meet this demand.”
Cody Cluff, the impresario behind Gasworks Brewing, said, “We want to brew more beer, welcome more people, and grow with the demand of our customers. We have been searching for the right facility and are excited to add 15,000 square feet of production and taproom space.”
They are not shutting down the 5-barrel system at the other location. Head Brewer and co-founder Kyle Hansen says, “We are excited to have the opportunity to brew larger batches and hone in our consistency utilizing our 55-barrel system in a more experimental way. Keeping the focus on the quality and uniqueness (PB and Banana Sour, anyone?) of our tap list.”
Gasworks Brewing says the buildout is not expected to take long. After all, the new location has already been a brewery and taproom for years. The company hopes to start brewing in May and to welcome the public thereafter.
