Two Northern California breweries announce that they’re now one
San Francisco’s Fort Point Beer Co. and Sonoma County’s HenHouse Brewing Co. just announced that they’ve merged and are now operating as Fort Point HenHouse. Each brewery will remain an independent brand, but are now combined on the backend. Post-merge, Fort Point HenHouse is expected to produce over 40,000 barrels of beer annually.
The official announcement said the merger allows the companies to pool teams, resources, and brewing operations. The five people who founded the two breweries will continue to run the businesses jointly.
“The merger enables us to truly future-proof our business while doubling down on our values,” said Fort Point co-founder and CEO Justin Catalana in the announcement. “Often craft breweries turn to national expansion or corporate acquisition to achieve long-term viability, but Fort Point and HenHouse have never been ones to follow existing playbooks. Through collaboration, we’re able to double our production and sales volume overnight, all while staying independent and maintaining a local focus.”
HenHouse co-founder and CEO Collin McDonnell added, “With Fort Point based in SF, HenHouse in Sonoma County, highly differentiated flagship beers, and diverse product portfolios, there’s a clear path to local growth. Our brands complement each other – they’re not competitive.”
Brewbound reports that production data from the Brewers Association shows that Fort Point Beer produced roughly 25,000 barrels of beer in 2023. HenHouse Brewing produced roughly 19,000 barrels. With a combined output of about 44,000 barrels, the new company would have ranked just outside of the BA’s top 50 list of independent craft brewing companies in 2023. Fort Point HenHouse should rank as the fifth-largest brewery in Northern California.
Fort Point Beer was founded in 2014. It is headquartered in San Francisco and operates a taproom on Valencia Street and a beer garden at the Ferry Building. HenHouse Brewing was founded in 2013 and is based in Santa Rosa, where it operates a brewery and taproom. It also operates taprooms in Petaluma and Novato. The announcement suggested that Fort Point HenHouse may look to add more breweries in the future.
