Dirty Bucket Brewing is located in Woodinville, Washington right next to Locust Cider. Steve Acord, the owner of Dirty Bucket Brewing, recently announced that he is merging his company with the cidery next door. The result, the brewery formerly known as Dirty Bucket will soon be known as Locust Brewing.

Re-branding like this can be rough, especially when your current brand has been around for seven years, like Dirty Bucket Brewing. That’s a point not wasted on the folks at Dirty Bucket, but Steve says that he looks forward to the new partnership and the opportunities for creativity that it will provide.

“We are breaking down walls, literally and figuratively,” he said in a statement on Facebook.

Here’s something for you own education. Until recently, Washington licensed breweries as breweries and cideries as wineries. They literally needed to have a wall between the two businesses. When Two Beers Brewing added a second business, Seattle Cider Company, in 2013 the law required that they be two entirely separate companies with different addresses. Thankfully, recent changes to state laws have eliminated that kind of silliness.

Here’s the statement Steve Acord posted on Facebook about the merger with Locust Cider:

As many of you know we are merging with our neighbors next door, Locust Cider. During our almost 7 years in this community you all have shown us so much amazing support and we could not be where we are today with out you.

This decision was not an easy one for me but I believe in continuing to grow and following my passion at the same time as taking care of not only my health but that of my family and friends.

This new venture will be an amazing opportunity not only for the Craft Beer industry but also for the Cider Industry. Together we are breaking down walls, literally and figuratively. We are taking Craft Beer to a whole new dimension and bringing beers styles you may recognize but we have put our own distinct and innovative touch to each of them.

With that said and as we look forward to 2019 we are making room for these changes and although the Dirty Bucket Brand will be a change we all do not take lightly we are excited to be launching Locust Brewing Co. Although the brand has changed the quality beers you have come to expect from DBB will not change.

We are excited to bring these two families together and share it with yours.

My hope is that you will find this new Craft Beer and Cider experience one that is unique, fun and just as welcoming as you have come to expect from us.

Thank you all once again for supporting us and we look forward to serving you in 2019.

Cheers,
Steve Acord
