Cairn Brewing celebrating an anniversary as well as a community
Part of the 5th-anniversary celebration at Cairn Brewing will honor Kenmore Air’s 75th anniversary. The celebration kicks off on Thursday, May 27th at the brewery and taproom in Kenmore, Washington.
“We value our community so much—the beer community, the Northshore community and our local business community,” says Jen Boyd, Cairn Brewing’s co-owner. “Kenmore Air holds a special place in our hearts at Cairn. They’re a small but scrappy team just like ours, and literally our neighbors right down the Burke Gilman Trail from Cairn’s brewery and taproom.”
Cairn Brewing is releasing four beers for the occasion, starting on Thursday: a lager, an IPA, a Berliner Weisse, and a blonde. The Lake Hopper Blonde was brewed as the official beer of Cairn Brewing’s 5th anniversary and Kenmore Air’s 75th. For the anniversary beer, the brewery involved Micro Homebrew, another Kenmore business, to help with recipe design. Skagit Valley Malting helped out by proving the grain.
Boyd adds, “Cairn and Kenmore Air are celebrating milestone business anniversaries this year—our 5th and their 75th. Why not make our anniversary beer one that honors their longtime service across the beautiful Pacific Northwest and in Kenmore?”
Sarah Feller, Kenmore Air’s Operations Manager says, “We share a community-mindset with the team at Cairn. It’s what’s propelled us both into 2021— the personal touch we can offer as a small family business sets Kenmore Air apart, and that spirit is there in the Cairn taproom as well. Our team has enjoyed more than one after work meet-up down the street at Cairn.”
This isn’t the first partnership for the two businesses. In 2019, Kenmore Air and Cairn Brewing offered a Father’s Day special: Flight and a flight. It was a special offer that included a seaplane tour followed by a custom flight of Cairn beers. The event will return this year and is booking now.
In keeping with the collaborative theme, Micro Homebrew and Skagit Valley Malting helped bring Lake Hopper Blonde to life. Micro Homebrew, and especially Tony and Kat Ochsner, developed the recipe. Eric Buist and the team at Skagit Valley Malting provided the Washington-sourced malt.
The Lake HopperBlonde comes in at 27 IBUs and 5.2 percent ABV. It is described as crisp and approachable, and an ideal beer to kick off summer.
“We’re excited to bring out new beers to our neighbors as we always do over Memorial Day weekend,” says Bill Boyd, brewer and co-owner at Cairn Brewing. “With a lager, an IPA, the Blonde, and the infused Berliner Weisse Sour, there will be something for just about everyone.”
All four beers will be available exclusively on tap at Cairn’s taproom and in 16-oz cans.
