February 2009 will mark the 10th anniversary of The Bottleworks — the decidedly hip beer store in Seattle’s decidedly hip Wallingford neighborhood. They opened the doors in 1999 and Matt Bonney and Matt Vandenberghe have helped shape the local beer scene ever since. (The Matts are also responsible for Brouwer’s Cafe in Fremont.) In the past, the two Matts have celebrated their anniversaries by releasing a specially crafted beer to mark the occasion. Over the years the Bottleworks anniversary beer has been produced by notable breweries like Rogue, Skagit, Flyers, and Russian River. This year they’re making a couple of beers to celebrate the 10 year milestone, one produced by New Belgium and the other by Hair of the Dog.
There is a lot of information about the New Belgium contribution here (on the PI’s beer blog). Less information about the Hair of the Dog beer, but at least we know the name. If you’re familiar with Hair of the Dog and the way they brand their beers, you won’t be surprised to learn that their contribution will be named Matt. Hair of the Dog is responsible for producing other beers with names like Ruth, Fred and Adam.
