It’s time for one of the most-anticipated beer releases of the year. Georgetown Brewing will soon release Bob’s Brown Ale (Wednesday, May 14, details below). Not long ago, I wrote a story for Sip Northwest magazine about Bob’s Brown Ale. That assignment allowed me to learn the whole, fantastic story behind this delicious beer, the proceeds from which are donated to Ronald McDonald House. The official release party: Wednesday, May 14 (Bob’s birthday) at 3pm at the Nickerson Street Saloon, 318 Nickerson Street, Seattle. Also on that date, along with dozens of bars around the area, the Beveridge Place Pub will celebrate the release at 6:00.

This marks the ninth year of the Bob’s Brown Ale project. To date, the beer has raised over $330,000 for Ronald McDonald House Charities of Western Washington and Alaska. By the time the 2014 batch runs dry, which usually only takes a few weeks, Georgetown Brewing is hoping that the number will exceed $400,000.

When interviewing him about the beer, Manny Chao of Georgetown Brewing, he told me, “Bob would be proud,” says Manny. “Wherever he is, he’s grinning big knowing that the beer he inspired is helping so many people and bringing so much pleasure to our beer bellies. Everyone that is involved—from making Bob’s, to selling it and drinking it—is giving back to our community. It’s pretty dang cool.””

SEATTLE, WA — Georgetown Brewing Company celebrates its 9th annual release of its limited edition brew, Bob’s Brown Ale, on Wednesday, May 14 (Bob’s birthday) at 3pm at the Nickerson Street Saloon, 318 Nickerson Street, Seattle. The goal for the 2014 release of Bob’s Brown Ale is to raise at least $90,000, which represents approximately 3,000 nights of housing this year for families with seriously ill children staying at the House. Since first brewed in 2006, Bob’s Brown Ale has raised more than $420,000 for the Seattle Ronald McDonald House.

Manny Chao, co-founder of Georgetown Brewing and namesake of their flagship beer, Manny’s Pale Ale, began brewing Bob’s Brown Ale in honor of his dear friend, Bob Hirsch. Bob died of cancer just after celebrating his 21st birthday, and though he battled cancer for more than half his life, he always inspired others with his bright, adventurous spirit. The Seattle Ronald McDonald House was chosen by Bob’s family as the recipient of the funds raised through Bob’s Brown Ale to show their appreciation for the comfort and support they received while liv- ing there during his cancer treatment.

Beer Specs: Big and brown with lots of hops. 6.3% alcohol. Hops: Centennial and Crystal. Malt: 2-row pale, caramel, chocolate, Munich, roasted barley.
