The Brewers’ Ball (Saturday, February 7th) is an 80s-themed beer festival celebrating the growing beer scene in and around Bellingham. Often called “the other city by the bay” (by me, at least), Bellingham is giving Bend, Oregon a run for its money in terms of breweries per capita. Bellingham is about the same size as Bend and now boasts five breweries (soon to be seven) within city limits, with a total of what will soon be nine in the greater Bellingham metroplex. I know that doesn’t quite compare to Bend, where there are more than 20 breweries in the area, but it’s still impressive.
As much as anything else, the Bellingham Brewers’ Ball will foster a spirit of comradery among the area’s brewers. “We are so excited for this event,” said Jenny Martin, Events Coordinator for Boundary Bay Brewery. “It is the first shindig in town where all of our [Whatcom] County brewers will be present to collaborate and celebrate each others brews without having to work.”
The Awkward 80s – Ladies, tease your hair up real big and use the Aqua Net Super Hold liberally! Beyond beer, the theme of the event is The Awkward 80’s. Gentlemen, dig deep into your closet and find that old Members Only jacket, slip into your Sperry Top Siders, and flip up the collar on you Izod polo shirt. Costumes are encouraged and there will be prizes awarded.
Attendees will be able to purchase beers from any of the nine local breweries involved: Aslan Brewing, Boundary Bay Brewery, Chuckanut Brewery, Kulshan Brewing, Menace Brewing, North Fork Brewing, Wander Brewing, Gruff Brewing (coming soon), and Stones Throw Brewing (coming soon) .
The admission is $15 and covers two drinks, complementary appetizers, dancing and unlimited awkward prom photos. All proceeds for this event will benefit the Bellingham St. Patrick’s Day Parade, a non-profit community-wide event.
