Updated August 1st — We have now learned that Geaux Brewing is also hosting a fundraiser on the same day. So, why not do two events: one in Kent and the other in Auburn. Make a day/evening of it.
On July 22nd residents of Kent were shocked by the death of Officer Diego Moreno in a horribly tragic accident. The sadness spread across the region as we all learned that Moreno died when he was hit by a police SUV driven by a fellow officer during the high-speed pursuit of a pickup fleeing a shots fired report. Airways Brewing and Geaux Brewing, both integral parts of the community, want to do what they can. On Friday, August 3rd they’ll host a fundraisers for Moreno’s family at the brewery’s taproom.
Here’s the statement from the breweries with details.
Airways Brewing:
We were deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Officer Diego Moreno on July 22nd, as we’ve relied on the Kent PD over the last 8.5 years to keep our businesses, employees, and customers safe. Officer Moreno is survived by his wife and two young children.
We’ll have a donation box at the Tap Room through August 3rd to collect cash and checks for the family. If you’d like to donate by check, just make it out to the Diego Moreno Memorial Fund.
On August 3rd, between 4-8 pm at our Tap Room on 212th, we’ll be cooking up a brat buffet. For a $10 (or more) donation, get a tasty brat plate (brats, buns, kraut, and toppings). Cash or check prefered, although we will also be able to take credit card payments.
Please note this is a 21+ event.
Geaux Brewing:
Just recently, we had the honor of hosting an event that included many of the Kent PD—including Officer Moreno—so it was especially poignant when we learned of his passing in the line of duty.
In honor of his memory and all of our law enforcement around the area, we are hosting a special Brews for the Blue fundraiser this Friday evening. Proceeds from the event will go towards both Officer Moreno’s family and the family of the other officer involved in this tragic incident. Light snacks will be provided and all ages are welcome.
If you want to make an evening out of it, our pals at Airways Brewing in Kent (on 212th) are also hosting a fundraiser. Their beer is amazing and so are the people that work there. Can you say valley pub crawl?! Either way, you can’t go wrong supporting the cause.
Being a member of the community doesn’t end at the city limits.
As a retired police detective, I can tell you that your support for this cause means more than you know! Thank you!
