A couple years ago, Legacy Breweries introduced itself as a new business venture that planned to use acquisitions to create craft hubs in the United States. Working toward that end, Legacy Breweries acquired breweries like Laurelwood Brewing of Oregon and Aspen Brewing of Colorado. Not long thereafter, the company entered an agreement with Ninkasi Brewing of Eugene, Oregon. According to a recent announcement, the relationship between Legacy Breweries and Ninkasi Brewing has been severed.
“After working together for about a year, Ninkasi Brewing and Legacy Breweries signed a separation agreement so they can focus on each company’s strategic imperatives,” said a press release from Ninkasi Brewing. “This separation was effective in 2020 and will allow both companies to build on their core competencies.”
Last Friday’s announcement continues, “Over the time they were working together, Ninkasi and Legacy were able to create considerable synergies against brand innovation, raw materials and supply chain improvements, as well as development of a premier Trade Development team and secure long-term major production contract to fill capacity.”
In the statement dated May 14, 2021, Ninkasi CEO, Nigel Francisco said, “It’s been a complicated year due to Covid-19 and we are very proud of the position Ninkasi has attained within the Northwest craft beer market. This separation agreement will allow Ninkasi to continue to invest in its brand, people and position here in the Northwest”

Ninkasi founders, Jaime Floyd and Nikos Ridge have resumed control of Ninkasi in conjunction with CEO Nigel Francisco.
