If you want to make great lagers, you might want this book. Modern Lager Beer: Techniques, Processes, and Recipes. A discount is available for BA and AHA members.

Once a rarity on the craft beer scene, these days it seems every brewery I visit offers at least one lager. Many offer more than one. Pilsner, Helles, Maerzen, Bock, Dortmunder, and other lager styles are growing in popularity among craft beer drinkers in the USA. This new book aims to help brewers understand the styles and do a better job brewing them.

If you write a book about modern lagers and how to brew them, you probably should include some insights from Will Kemper. I don’t keep count of these things, but his brewery, Chuckanut Brewery, must be North America’s most highly decorated lager-focused craft brewery. You’d need an abacus to count Chuckanut Brewery’s medals. Jack Hendler and Joe Conolly, co-authors of Moder Lager Beer, recognized the value of Will Kemper’s input; he contributed the forward to this new, definitive guide to lagers and lager brewing.

The book is now available. Modern Lager Beer explores the world of lager beers, delving into their historical origins, and the detailed development and techniques used in their production today.

“This book should be a welcome addition to any brewer who aspires to make great lager beer. Presenting a thorough historical and evolutionary picture of lager leading up to its present-day global dominance, the many examples and interviews within show there are quite different approaches and views regarding best lager practices. However, despite such diversity, this book illustrates that what unifies all lager brewers is their quest for drinkability.” —Will Kemper, Chuckanut Brewery.

Because of popular demand, Modern Lager Beer is back-ordered and expected to ship at the end of April. If you are a member of the Brewers Association of the American Homebrewers Association, you should have gotten a discount code via email. If you didn’t, contact the Brewers Association. That code is for pre-sales only and you must order, using the code, by April 2nd. Order the book here.
