World of Beer – Grand Opening in Renton

There’s a new beer bar coming to Renton. I’m talking about 50 taps and 500 bottles. Serious stuff. World of Beer will open at The Landing in Renton on Monday, April 22. I actually stopped in the other day for a sneak peek. It was still a bit of a construction zone, but it certainly is coming together nicely. We reported on this story back in September when we first learned that World of Beer was coming to town. The official press release about the grand opening is below.

I share a couple pictures below to give you an idea, but understand that they are still finishing up the build-out. And also, my pictures (phone shots) are not very good. Actually, when I was there, the staff was going through beer training – studying style guides and such. As I understand it, in addition to the beer training, the bartenders undergo a draft system training program as well.

World of Beer is a chain of beer bar bars originally hailing from Tampa, Florida. The focus is entirely on the beer; they serve no food. World of Beer has locations in about a dozen states and now plans to open several locations here in Washington. The first of these will open next week in Renton. You might raise an eyebrow when you hear that these folks are not locals, but rest assured they seem to know plenty about beer. As I saw it, the opening day draft list will be impressive.

The other day I was at Brouwer’s Cafe for a tasting symposium – Identifying Off-Flavors in Beer. I happened to sit down next to Ian Coyne, the Product Manager for World of Beer. Ian is a World of Beer veteran and moved here from Texas to open the Renton location. He is keenly aware of the amazing beer culture we enjoy here in Washington, he already knows a lot more than local beer geeks might expect him to, and he knows there is a lot to learn. He had a certain amount of enthusiasm in his voice when he said that, I might add.
