Washington breweries brought home 43 medals from the 2018 North American Beer Awards. The judging is sanctioned by the North American Brewers Association and is held in conjunction with the Mountain Brewers Beer Fest in Idaho Falls, which happened last weekend. They do not publish a list of the breweries that submitted beer, which is something to think about before you get your barley in a bunch because your favorite brewery didn’t win a medal. Maybe they didn’t participate.
Looking at the complete list of medal winners it seems obvious that the competition is largely confined to the Western United States and Western Canada. That said, plenty of great breweries do submit beer to the competition and bringing home one of these medals is no small feat.
