The North American Brewers Association (NABA) held its annual festival and beer judging competition on Saturday, June 4th. Once again Washington breweries brought home plenty of hardware: a total of 29 medals found their way back to the evergreen state. Washington breweries even swept an entire category.

- Silver City Brewing and Sound Brewery each won six medals.
- Chuckanut Brewery won five medals.
- Washington swept the Irish Red Ale category: Diamond Knot Brewing (bronze), Silver City Brewing (gold) and Sound Brewery (silver).

One of the most prestigious beer judging events of the year, the NABA Awards competition takes place in conjunction with the Mountain Brewers Beer Festival in Idaho Falls, ID. Brewers from across the continent send beer to Idaho Falls hoping to land gold, silver, and bronze medals. Typically, NABA officials taste more than 1,000 beers judging the competition.

The North American Brewers Association (NABA) sanctions the judging at this event. Judges at the NABA awards include brew masters from major national breweries as well as experts from small, independent breweries.The judging panel also includes beer journalists and certified judges. Judging is performed in a blind format competition with beers poured in a separate room and provided to the judges in style flights. Judging in teams, the judges select and rank the top three beers in each style flight.
