Just over a year ago, we told you that Urban Family Brewing planned to open a second location, this one on Seattle’s newly revitalized waterfront. It’s been a long haul, but we’re getting close to sharing an opening date with you. The brewery recently began hiring for positions at the new Urban Family Waterfront.
The brewery shared the news: “Urban Family *Waterfront* will have all the beers you know and love, alongside craft cocktails, local wines, coffee, and grandma-style pan pizzas made by @pizzabychrisnsandra. We are looking for positive & creative people who want to work in a fast-paced environment and share our passion for making the best food and drinks possible.”
Note that the Urban Family location in Ballard is not hiring at this time. At the new waterfront location, several roles need to be filled. You can learn more about each position and apply here.

Location, Location, Location
You will find the new location at 1022 Alaskan Way, across from Ivar’s Fish Bar and Ivar’s Acres of Clams. It is within easy walking distance of the Washington State Ferries terminal, Pike Place Market, and Seattle’s stadiums. Just a couple of blocks from Copperworks Distilling and the Reuben’s Brews downtown taproom.
“Urban Family Waterfront will be a comfortable space to take in all this city has to offer,” Andy Gundel, owner of Urban Family Brewing, said when making the original announcement. “We want to be a hub for everyone: people visiting Seattle for the first time, locals who need a spot to hang out before and after a game, commuters waiting for their next bus or ferry, and everybody in between.”
“We have been searching for a new location in Seattle that best fits the evolution of our small brewery and it feels like we’ve finally found the spot,” said Andy. “We love everything about craft beer, and want to expand that enthusiasm to a whole new concept.”
Expanding the Enthusiasm to Include Food
Urban Family’s waterfront taproom will offer food to complement the beer. The food program, directed by Chris and Sandra Curtiss, who local foodies might recognize as the purveyors of the Nacho Mama’s food truck, will focus on pizzas, among other things. The square, “grandma-style” pizzas will feature crispy, fluffy crust and caramelized cheese around the edges. Beyond that, expect sandwiches, salads, small plates, and snacks.
Expanding the enthusiasm includes offering cocktails and other non-beer beverages. The brewery shared on Instagram, “Our Ballard taproom needs a sibling, so we figured we may as well go big, right?”
