Georgetown Brewing and Fremont Brewing crack the top 50

Today the Brewers Association released its annual list of the top 50 producing craft brewing companies in the USA based on sales volume. Two Washington breweries made the list: Fremont Brewing and Georgetown Brewing. This information is factual, not subjective. I don’t make the rules about what is and is not considered a craft brewery. This has nothing to do with best. Sorry.

The Brewers Association also provided the list of Top 50 Breweries Overall, which includes all those dastardly non-craft breweries that craft beer fans despise. Take heart, all you craft beer lovers, 40 of the 50 largest breweries in the USA qualify as craft breweries according to the Brewers Association definition.

It is always interesting to see which breweries produce more beer or less beer than we imagine. Also, it’s interesting to see breweries on the list with names we don’t recognize. How can a brewery be big enough to make this list without us knowing about it? Of course, there are Washington breweries on the list that people in other parts of the country do not recognize. Hard to imagine a beer geek not knowing about Georgetown Brewing or Fremont Brewing.
