Scuttlebutt Brewing Announces Release Date for Big Dumper Beer

Everett, Washington’s Scuttlebutt Brewing celebrates the release of it’s official Cal Raleigh brew with a launch party at its taproom on Friday, August 15th. Big Dumper Beer was brewed with, and to honor, Cal Raleigh, the all-star catcher for the Seattle Mariners..

At the release event, you can meet the Big Dumper Beer, but not the Big Dumper himself. Cal Raleigh (aka Big Dumper) will not attend the event. It’s summer, so he will be busy with his day job, crushing homeruns into the bleachers and throwing out runners at second base.

Cal Raleigh is putting together an amazing season. Historic, really. He’s achieving things on that only the greatest catchers in the history of baseball have achieved. Away from the ballpark, Cal Raleigh worked in partnership with Scuttlebutt Brewing to create a beer bearing his nickname: Big Dumper Beer, which the brewery created with input from the Big Dumper himself. The beer is described as a crisp, crushable lager.

They’ll debut the beer at a special release event at the brewery’s taproom in Everett on August 15th. We share more info about the event below. Thereafter, it will be available in select markets and at select stadiums. Beyond the beer itself, the partnership will include co-branded merchandise, charity events, and exclusive fan experiences.

How Cal Raleigh Teamed Up With Scuttlebutt Brewing

Cal Raleigh was drafted by the Seattle Mariners and came up through the team’s farm system. His time in the minor leagues included a stint with the Everett Aquasox, which is when he first came across Scuttlebutt Brewing.

“Partnering with Scuttlebutt is a no-brainer,” said Cal Raleigh. “They represent everything I love about the  PNW—creative, local, and all about quality. I’ve been a fan of their beers since I first visited the Taproom during my time in Everett, and now I get to be part of the crew. Excited to work with a Washington original.”

The term dumper is not usually flattering when talking about a beer, referring to a beer that is more dumpable than drinkable, but in this case it refers to Cal’s nickname, Big Dumper. Naming it Big Dumper Beer is a clever twist on the beer term, since Scuttlebutt is not the kind of brewery that makes dumpable beers. The irony is perfect.

“Teaming up with Cal is a perfect fit for us,” said Phil Bannan Jr, second-generation owner of Scuttlebutt Brewing. “Cal is an incredible athlete, fan favorite and he also shares Scuttlebutt Brewing core values:  grit, tenacity and rich, fun-loving community
