Reuben’s Brews is about to release the 2015 version of its Bourbon Barrel Imperial Stout (BBIS). The beer will be available in 22-ounce bottles at the brewery’s taproom starting at noon on Saturday, December 19th.
This beer won gold medals at the 2013 and 2014 World Beer Championships, as well as a gold medal at the 2015 Best of Craft Beer Awards. Reuben’s Brews moved into a new, larger facility last spring, which means they were able to make more of the BBIS; this year they produced about 75 percent more than previous years.
“We’re really excited for this year’s release,” says co-founder and head brewer Adam Robbings. “We updated the recipe slightly to make it fuller, richer, with even more milk chocolate notes. We sourced 5- to 12-year-old bourbon barrels, and aged all of this years release in first-use barrels. We waited patiently until the beer was ready – and we’re pleased to say that time has come!”
As they sampled each barrel of the Bourbon Barrel Imperial Stout, one particular barrel provided exceptional flavor. In fact, it didn’t require any blending. The beer in Barrel 7 was perfect on its own. Usually barrel-aged beer are “blended back” to create the desired flavor profile, but not the beer in Barrel 7. They will tap the only keg of Barrel 7 at 4:00.
Bottles of the Bourbon Barrel Imperial Stout are $15 each and will only be available in the taproom on a first-come, first-served basis, and will be limited to four bottles per person, per day. Barrel 7 has a limit of one bottle per person, per day.
The Burgerphenia food truck will be at the brewery on Saturday. Also to help commemorate the occasion, Reuben’s Brews will tap into some special beers on Saturday, including a keg of both the 2014 and 2013 BBIS. Then at 4:00 they’ll tap the only keg of Barrel 7.
