Two of Seattle’s top craft beverage producers team up to introduce Greyhound Spritz
As I explained in a previous article, studies show that craft beer drinkers are more omnibibulous than other kinds of drinkers. That is, we drink everything, not just beer. Wine lovers and cocktail drinkers, for instance, are more likely to stay in their lane, but craft beer drinkers tend to also enjoy other types of adult beverages.
It’s not a betrayal for a brewery to explore beverages away from traditional beer. Breweries are in the business of making things that people want to drink or else they are not in business for long. Most often they make beer, of course, but it’s understandable when a brewery messes around with other stuff too. For instance, Greyhound Spritz is a collaborative effort between Reuben’s Brews and OOLA Distillery, two of Seattle’s top craft beverage producers.
Greyhound Spritz is described as an innovative new canned offering that combines the fruity, citrusy notes of hops with the bright, aromatic character of gin botanicals. Starting on August 3rd, you can get it at both Reuben’s Brews locations (Ballard and Fremont) as well as OOLA’s location in the Capitol Hill neighborhood. Greyhound Spritz weighs in at 8.4 percent ABV and is available in 12-ounce cans.
“Gin cocktails have always been a favorite with our family,” says Thor Stoddard, innovation manager at Reuben’s Brews. “They were at every get-together, vacation, party, etc. And here at Reuben’s we’ve brewed with citrus quite a few times now. Ultimately we thought something with gin botanicals and citrus flavor would be perfect for the warmer months.”
The collaboration was born last year when OOLA Distillery expressed an interest in partnering with a local brewery. Once the crew from Reuben’s Brews toured the OOLA facility in SODO, they got excited about the possibilities. After kicking several ideas back and forth and then testing a few different variations, the Greyhound Spritz was born.
“Being a part of this collaboration has been a blast,” says Kirby Kallas-Lewis, owner/distiller at OOLA. “They have such a talented and creative team at Reuben’s—from the label design to the Greyhound Spritz itself, they knocked it out of the park. I believe if people try this once they will be back for more!”
The Greyhound Spritz is described as bright, citrusy, and slightly spicy, combining Reuben’s seltzer techniques with OOLA’s gin botanicals and grapefruit puree to provide a simply refreshing take on a classic cocktail.
