Once again, beer lovers around Portland are in for a treat as Portland Beer Week returns for 2023. From Friday, June 16 through Sunday, June 25, more than 20 beer-fueled events are planned around the city.
Some highlights include a weekend-long Kolsch Fest at Prost!; a self-distribution showcase at Loyal Legion featuring beers from breweries that distribute their own beer instead of contracting with a distributor; a Brewers and Their Bands event at Ecliptic Brewing; the Spile & Spigot cask and firkin beer festival at Steeplejack; and the Portland Beer and Cheese Fest at Living Häus Beer. Many other events too.
One notable event for beer enthusiasts residing north of the Columbia River, this Friday Washington breweries celebrate a victory with an event they’re calling For the Win: Washington Breweries Celebrate Oregon Distribution Victory.
Sereveza, the esteemed beer bar, hosts the event and will dedicate its taps to beers from Fortside Brewing, Mirage Beer, Garden Path Fermentation, and Dwinell Country Ales – the Washington breweries that challenged Oregon last summer with a lawsuit alleging that a state law discriminated against out-of-state breweries in violation of the U.S. Constitution.

As we reported in April, following eight months of litigation the Oregon Liquor & Cannabis Commission agreed to a settlement. Oregon now allows out-of-state breweries to self-distribute beer to Oregon retailers and also allows them to ship beer directly to Oregon consumers.
“The tap takeover-style event will run from 5 to 8 pm and feature a Q&A session about the lawsuit at 5:30 pm in the Bad Habit Room. Michael Dempster (Mirage), Justin Leigh (Dwinell), and attorney Judith Parker of J.A. Parker Law Firm, who served as local counsel in the lawsuit, will be in attendance to discuss the underlying lawsuit. A celebratory toast will be held at 7:00 pm.”
